A retired Brigadier General and former Nigerian Army spokesman has shared a disturbing story about Boko Haram’s desecration of a mosque during their occupation of Bama Local Government in Borno State, revealing evidence that contradicts the group’s claimed religious motivations.
Speaking in an interview with Arise TV from 11:31, the veteran military officer drew from his direct combat experience to expose the non-religious nature of the insurgent group’s activities. “I happened to be among those people who fought against the Boko Haram insurgency. I was there for a year, 2014-2015, and I know what happened when Bama fell and so many other places, the circumstances,” he stated.
The former army spokesman revealed disturbing evidence discovered by troops who recaptured Bama from Boko Haram control. “And in any case, in any case, there is nothing religious about it. People were conscripted. People were forced. You may not believe it, and I will tell you this. And the people who recaptured Bama from Boko Haram, they will tell you what they saw when they went there.
The central mosque in front of the Shehu of Bama’s palace, it was Boko Haram that was there. But I can assure you, they saw so many unholy things. So, it is not religious. These people were high on drugs, doing all sorts of things because they have the power of the gun,” he explained.
The retired Brigadier General addressed the complex challenge of dealing with individuals claiming to have been forced into Boko Haram activities. “So, basically now, somebody has an opportunity to come out and say with utmost sincerity that he has not been associated, he has been there against his will. Now, what do you do? Do you kill the person?” he questioned.
He advocated for thorough investigation processes rather than summary judgment. “I guess you have to verify his claim and all that, and those are the processes,” the veteran said.
