Former Rivers State Governor and All Progressives Congress (APC) stalwart, Rotimi Amaechi, has called on Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, to publicly disclose the source of funding for the sweeping infrastructure developments currently reshaping the state.

According to Vanguard, Amaechi made the appeal during a recent inspection tour of major project sites in Abia, accompanied by fellow alumni of the University of Port Harcourt who graduated alongside Otti between 1980 and 1989. During the visit, the former Minister of Transportation lauded the governor’s visible impact, citing the transformation of Port Harcourt Road in Aba as particularly impressive.

“I used to know this road in a completely different condition. What I see today is astonishing,” Amaechi said, acknowledging the rapid and comprehensive redevelopment efforts under Otti’s leadership since assuming office 22 months ago.

Despite the commendations, Amaechi raised pressing questions regarding the financial backbone of the projects. “It’s important Governor Otti tells Nigerians and, indeed, the people of Abia how he is funding all of this. Many governors from smaller states lament inadequate federal allocations, so this level of progress naturally raises questions,” he noted.

Highlighting the long-neglected Omenuko Bridge on the Abam-Ohafia Road, which has now been reconstructed, Amaechi described it as a long overdue project and praised its completion. “It was a death trap, and it’s surprising that past administrations let it deteriorate for so long,” he added.

He also applauded Otti’s partnership with reputable contractors like Julius Berger, drawing parallels to similar collaborations during his tenure as Minister of Transportation. “That level of engagement shows serious intent and ensures quality and durability,” Amaechi remarked.

Amaechi concluded by predicting that Governor Otti’s performance could guarantee a smooth path to re-election, should he sustain the current development pace. “If this continues, I don’t see any strong opposition in the next election,” he stated.

Other members of the UNIPORT alumni delegation, including Hon. Ernest Rowland Douglas, Dr. Chidi Ulelu, and Mr. Duke Odinde, echoed Amaechi’s sentiments, expressing pride in Otti’s leadership and achievements.

In response to the questions on funding, Pastor Caleb Ajagba, Chief of Staff to the Governor, attributed the success to financial discipline, transparency, and a firm anti-corruption stance. “What you see here is the result of prudent spending and zero tolerance for corruption. Governor Otti has ensured every kobo is accounted for,” he affirmed.

The team toured several key infrastructure projects, including rehabilitated road sections in Umuahia, Uzuakoli, Akara, Abiriba, and Ohafia, as well as the reconstructed Omenuko Bridge and major thoroughfares in Aba, such as Bank Road and Aguiyi Ironsi Boulevard.
