According to a report by The Sun on Friday , July 4,2025,heartbroken fans stood in silence today as the coffins of Liverpool footballer Diogo Jota and his younger brother André Silva arrived at their hometown chapel in Portugal.

The two brothers died in a car crash late Wednesday night in Spain.

Their bodies have now been brought back to Gondomar, near Porto, where they will be buried.

Family and friends, including Jota’s wife Rute Cardoso, gathered today for a private ceremony at the Sao Cosme Chapel.

Their mother Isabel and grandfather were also seen at the chapel this morning.

A wake will be held tomorrow at 8am at the same chapel, followed by a funeral service at the nearby Igreja Matriz de Gondomar at 10am. It’s not yet clear if the funeral will be open to the public.

Jota, 28, and André, 25, were driving on the A-52 road in northwestern Spain, heading to catch a ferry to the UK, when a tyre burst caused their car to crash near Cernadilla,a part of the road locals claimed to be very dangerous.

The car caught fire, and both brothers were confirmed dead at the scene by emergency workers.

Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa is expected to attend the wake.

Jota’s wife, Rute who married him just 11 days ago is now preparing to say goodbye.The couple have three children, including a baby girl born this year.

Many people have shared emotional tributes since the accident, including Cristiano Ronaldo, former Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp, and current manager Arne Slot.
