The New Nigeria Peoples Party has dismissed rumors about Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso joining the ruling All Progressives Congress.
According to a report by Nigerian Tribune on July 27 of 2025, Prince Nweze Onu, NNPP’s National Vice Chairman for South-East, called the claims “social media speculation” fueled by false information.
“Talks about Kwankwaso moving to APC only exist on social media,” Onu said. He warned that artificial intelligence and social media tools make it easy for people to spread political lies.
The rumors started after Kwankwaso met President Bola Tinubu at Aso Rock Villa on Monday, July 21. Many people thought the meeting had political meaning.
But Onu explained that Kwankwaso did not visit the president for political reasons. “He only went there for a program. They were seen together because the program was held at the Presidential Villa,” he said.
The NNPP leader was the party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election. His possible move to APC would be big news in Nigerian politics.
For now, NNPP insists Kwankwaso remains loyal to the party. They blame social media for spreading the defection stories.
The party urges Nigerians to ignore rumors and focus on facts instead of social media gossip about political movements.
