Chief Olabode George, a founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has begged key party leaders to reconsider plans to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC), as reported by Nigerian Tribune on Friday, 11th July, 2025.

He specifically appealed to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and ex-Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State.

George made the appeal during a press briefing at his office in Ikoyi, Lagos.

The event was attended by top PDP members, including former Deputy Governor of Lagos, Senator Kofoworola Bucknor-Akerele, and former Communications Minister, General Tajudeen Olanrewaju.

He said the PDP had survived many crises and is now restored.

According to him, leaving the party now is like turning away from one’s roots.

He said some who left in the past later returned, and warned others not to repeat the same mistake.

On July 2, 2025, Atiku, Tambuwal, Peter Obi of the Labour Party, and others had joined forces with former APC figures like Nasir el-Rufai and Rotimi Amaechi to support the ADC.

George insisted that PDP remains the strongest opposition and urged unity ahead of the 2027 elections.

He warned that building a coalition just to defeat President Tinubu was not enough reason to abandon the PDP.

He also reminded northern leaders that the party’s constitution does not support a northern presidential candidate in 2027.

“My advice to them is to take things softly. There is no way you can compare this congregation with ours. They did it before, when they got beaten, they ran back to the party. It’s a shame,” he said.
