The suspended Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Martin Chike Amaewhule, has officially commenced a five-day legislative tour in the United Kingdom alongside members of the 10th Assembly.
According to Martins Wachukwu, Special Assistant on Media to the Speaker, this is the third capacity-building initiative organized by the Assembly without any financial support from the Rivers State Government.
The tour, which began in Central London, is aimed at enhancing the legislative capacity of members through exposure to global best practices.
Day one of the programme focused on the topic “Legislative Dynamics in the Presidential and Parliamentary Systems,” with members expressing confidence that the experience will strengthen their oversight and lawmaking roles.
He stated that the programme is fully sponsored by political leaders who have continued to support the House during what he described as a challenging period of political tension.
Members of the House expressed deep appreciation to the political leader of Rivers State, Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, and the Rivers State Elders Council for their consistent backing.
In his closing remarks, Amaewhule thanked the people of Rivers State for their trust in the Assembly and assured them of continued service.
He called on residents to remain peaceful and supportive of the state’s leadership. The opening day ended with a banquet in London.
