During an emotional interview with Channels Television from 17:25, prominent Nigerian lawyer and human rights advocate Mike Ozekhome spoke about recent improvements in the remuneration of judges in Nigeria. He highlighted a significant increase in the salaries of Supreme Court justices and other judges, crediting the current government for taking positive steps in this regard.

Ozekhome noted that while the new salary packages represent a major advancement, especially compared to past compensation, they still face challenges due to the prevailing inflationary environment in the country.

According to him, “The present government, I must give kudos, has done something good in this respect through a new law last year, giving judges, for example, Supreme Court justices, I think they now get about N54 million per annum; that translates to maybe about N5.3 million per month. Well, it must not mean much in the present inflationary period, but it is a leap forward, and all judges salaries have been increased.”
