High Chief Government Ekpemupolo, better known as Tompolo, has urged the Ijaw people to support President Bola Tinubu, expressing confidence in the president’s leadership and potential to uplift the Niger Delta.
Speaking during his 54th birthday in Gbaramatu Kingdom, the former militant leader surprised some by backing Tinubu.
“Let us continue to support President Tinubu. He is not a bad person, and he will bring good things to the Ijaw Nation,” Tompolo said, despite political tensions in the region.
Turning to the ongoing ward delineation issue in Warri Federal Constituency, he addressed historical land claims, emphasizing harmony over rivalry between Ijaws and Itsekiris. “Omadino in Gbaramatu is 40 years older than all Itsekiri communities… INEC only revealed the truth. We are one people,” he stated.
Tompolo reminded listeners of the Olu of Warri’s Ijaw maternal lineage, asserting that shared heritage should override political manipulation. “The Olu of Warri is a maternal son of Gbaramatu,” he revealed.
Responding to unrest in Bayelsa, Tompolo warned against sabotage: “Anyone who tries to destabilize Bayelsa will meet fierce resistance… We must love and protect each other.”
By blending calls for national cooperation, regional unity, and historical clarity, Tompolo’s address signals a renewed political posture, one of caution, strength, and strategic alliances, with an open hand toward the presidency and a firm grip on the Ijaw identity.
