According to a report by TVC News on Monday July 28th 2025; Felele road, one of the busiest highways linking key parts of Kogi State, has become a nightmare for commuters and residents alike, as worsening road conditions now pose serious threats to life and property; The once-vibrant route, critical for daily transportation and inter-state commerce, is now riddled with massive potholes, failed portions, and stagnant water, turning travel into a perilous journey.
A recent video report has brought renewed attention to the dire state of the road; The footage shows long stretches of severely damaged pavement, abandoned vehicles stuck in ditches, and frustrated drivers navigating treacherous terrain; According to eyewitnesses featured in the report, multiple accidents have occurred due to the poor condition of the road, many of which have resulted in injuries and fatalities.
“Every time it rains, this road becomes completely impassable,” said one commercial driver interviewed in the video; “We lose money, we risk our lives, and passengers are scared.”
Commuters also expressed anger over the silence of relevant government authorities; Despite numerous complaints and social media outcries, there appears to be little or no intervention from either the Kogi State government or federal road agencies.
Beyond safety concerns, the dilapidated road is now a source of serious economic disruption; Commercial drivers have increased fares to compensate for vehicle damage, and travel time has doubled for many routes that pass through Felele; Residents say the state of the road also deters business investors and discourages tourism in the area.
“This is not just a road; it is a lifeline,” a community leader lamented; “If it is destroyed, it affects everyone ,traders, students, families, and even emergency responders.”
Many are now calling on the Federal Government and Kogi State authorities to prioritize the rehabilitation of Felele Road; Civil society groups, local leaders, and transport unions are reportedly mobilizing for protests and petitions in a bid to draw attention to what they describe as an “avoidable tragedy in progress.”
As of the time of this report, no official statement has been released by the Kogi State Ministry of Works or the Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA) regarding a timeline for repairs.
The situation in Felele underscores a wider infrastructural crisis affecting many parts of Nigeria, one where neglect, lack of maintenance, and poor planning continue to endanger the lives of citizens.
