According to a report by Punch on Saturday, November 15, 2025, Nollywood star Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde has opened up about how living abroad completely changed her view of life and taught her lessons that humbled her. The actress, who spent over two years in the United States with her family, said the experience opened her eyes to many things she never noticed while living in Nigeria.
According to her, living abroad made her understand how much suffering people in Nigeria go through every day. She explained that many of the things Nigerians struggle with should not be part of normal life. Simple things like electricity, transportation, health care, and basic government services work smoothly in many places abroad, and it made her ask why Nigerians must keep enduring hardship.
Omotola said the experience humbled her because she saw how systems can make life easier, and how people can focus on building their dreams when the society supports them. She added that Nigerians are some of the smartest and strongest people in the world, but they waste too much time surviving problems that should not exist.
She also spoke about fame and how it affected her earlier years. Being a big celebrity in Nigeria at a young age meant she did not fully understand how tough life was for ordinary people. But moving abroad, where no one treated her like a superstar, helped her stay grounded. She learned the value of discipline, privacy, and living a simple life. View, More,
