Chief Chekwas Okorie, the convener of the Igbo Agenda Dialogue, has called on the Igbo community across Nigeria to recognize and use their political influence more effectively.
His remarks were made during a video broadcast aired by Signature TV, where he discussed the population strength and voting power of the Igbo people.
According to Chief Okorie, recent studies show that Igbo citizens make up at least 25% of the voting population in every Nigerian state. He emphasized that this figure is consistent nationwide, regardless of location. He also noted that the Igbo are the second-largest ethnic group in every state, following the indigenous population.
However, he expressed concern that many within the community have not fully understood the significance of these numbers. He believes that if more people realized their collective strength, they could have greater influence in national decisions and leadership.
His words,
“Studies have proved that igbo people have minimum of 25% of the voting population of any state in Nigeria and our people have not appreciated the enormous power inherent in that number.”
