According to a report by Vanguard news 19 July 2025, a group of enthusiastic supporters of Peter Obi, popularly known as the “Obidients,” on Saturday, passionately appealed to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to step aside for Obi ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

The appeal was made during a political rally held in Umuahia, the capital of Abia State.

The event, organized by youth groups and civil society coalitions sympathetic to Obi’s political ideology, drew a large crowd of supporters clad in branded shirts and waving placards bearing inscriptions such as “Obi Our Hope 2027” and “Atiku, Support the New Nigeria Project.”

Speaking at the rally, a coordinator of the Obidient Movement in Abia, Chuka Okoroafor, said their appeal to Atiku was borne out of respect for his political experience and contributions to Nigeria’s democracy.

However, he emphasized that the mood of the youth and a majority of Nigerians now favored a new political direction symbolized by Peter Obi.

“We recognize Alhaji Atiku Abubakar as a respected elder statesman, but in 2027, we strongly believe that it is time for him to support Mr. Peter Obi, who represents the aspirations of millions of Nigerians seeking a credible alternative,” Okoroafor declared to loud cheers.

The rally also witnessed solidarity speeches from representatives of student unions, market associations, and civil society groups, all echoing the call for Atiku to embrace the “Obidient” movement.

So far, there has been no official reaction from Atiku or his camp regarding the plea.
