Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication and Social Media to the Federal Capital Territory Minister, has disputed recent reports regarding the health status of Finance Minister Wale Edun.
In a statement posted on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Olayinka challenged the credibility of claims made by online publication Sahara Reporters and its founder, Omoyele Sowore.
The presidential aide highlighted what he described as contradictory reporting by the news platform. He noted that after initially publishing allegations on Sunday that Minister Edun had suffered a stroke and been evacuated overseas for treatment, the same outlet later reported that the minister had traveled on commercial flights—first from Abuja to Lagos, then onward to London via British Airways on Monday.
Olayinka questioned the logical consistency of the reports, pointing out that a senior government official allegedly unable to use his limbs due to a stroke would have been noticed by fellow passengers and photographed during commercial air travel.
The media aide expressed frustration with what he termed as false narratives, suggesting that critical responses to such claims often provoke hostile reactions from supporters of the online publisher.
