Zainab Buba Galadima, a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), has opened up about the unique challenges of being the daughter of one of Nigeria’s most vocal opposition figures, Alhaji Buba Galadima. In an interview on the Mic On Podcast, Zainab explained that while her father’s relentless criticism of her party creates public controversy, their relationship at home remains peaceful.

She acknowledged that her father often mentions her in his interviews, which has made her a subject of public discussion. According to Zainab, this dynamic has caused her “a lot of trouble” outside the family, but she has learned to navigate it as part of her political journey. She said her father warned her about the difficulties that would come with being on the opposite side of the political divide.

Zainab also revealed that she sometimes tries to get her father to tone down his public attacks, but he refuses, seeing his activism as essential to his identity. She said that she often avoids watching his interviews to shield herself from what he might say, only asking others for a summary afterward.

“It’s just like nothing ever happens when we’re inside. But when it’s outside, a lot of people say a lot of things, you know, but I’m used to it because he has already warned me anyway”.

“Sometimes I tell him, ‘Can you slow down?’ He will be like, ‘No, I can’t. You want me to die?’ But I’m used to it and I’m proud of him”.

“I don’t sit down to watch it because I really don’t want to hear what he has. So when he finishes, I ask people, ‘So did he say anything about…’ but he’s a very interesting person and a very funny person and he’s down to earth, very friendly”.

“Everybody knows that. Even those who grew up with him know that. Buba troublemaker. And funny enough, they think I’m his female version but I think we’re not as—you’re not as handful. Well, it depends on the situation.
