Maxwell Opara, a constitutional lawyer, has sharply criticised former high-ranking politicians who complain publicly about being denied political party registration by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). He argued that such individuals, with decades of political experience, should know better than to seek sympathy when legal options are clearly available.
Speaking during an interview on Arise Television 5:00, Opara questioned the credibility of seasoned politicians who choose to lament INEC’s refusal rather than pursue proper legal redress. He emphasised that Nigeria operates under the rule of law, and any perceived injustice from a regulatory body like INEC should be challenged in court, not through public outcry.
According to him, “I can’t see the reason why such a calibre of person, somebody that has been a speaker of state for 8 years, governor for 8 years, minister for 8 years, and you’re now crying that you and your group have approached INEC and INEC refuses. How dare you? You dare not do that. Let your lawyer approach court and compel him. You don’t need to beg him.”
