Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and former Rivers State governor, Nyesom WIKE has taken a swipe at Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter OBI over his claim that he would use commercial flights if elected president.

In a video shared by TVC News from 13:25, Wike mocked the idea describing it as unrealistic and misleading. He questioned the logic behind such a promise, suggesting that it was merely aimed at exciting supporters without any grounding in the realities of presidential security protocols.

“And somebody will be telling you as a presidential candidate, when I win as president, I will use commercial plane and you think he is telling you the truth. Which security will allow you?,” Wike asked pointedly.

The FCT Minister’s remarks have stirred reactions across political lines, especially among supporters of Obi who see the former Anambra governor’s frugal lifestyle as a mark of integrity and humility. However, Wike dismissed such portrayals, insisting that leadership must be based on practicality and sound governance rather than populist rhetoric.

Wike’s comments are the latest in a series of sharp criticisms he has directed at Obi, as both men continue to occupy opposing ends of Nigeria’s political spectrum. While Obi’s 2023 campaign drew massive youth support on promises of cutting government waste and leading by example, Wike has repeatedly called such promises “theatrics.”

Analysts believe Wike’s latest jab is part of a broader strategy to discredit opponents ahead of the 2025 elections, where political alignments are once again shifting. His comments also reflect ongoing tensions between the old guard of Nigerian politics and a rising movement for political reform represented by candidates like Obi.
