Oba Frederick Obateru Akinruntan, the Olugbo of Ugbo Kingdom and owner of Obat Oil, has cleared the air about recent rumours of his death. Akinruntan stated that he only travelled abroad for a holiday and returned safely. He said some people were afraid to approach him when he got back because they thought he had died and returned as a ghost.
In a video shared by Control TV, Akinruntan said that while some people avoided him out of fear, many others were happy to see him alive and came to celebrate with him. He appreciated those who showed concern about his health and well-being during the period the rumour was circulating.
Akinruntan also said he would not take legal action against those who spread the false news of his death. He explained that he has no interest in pursuing the matter and has decided to leave everything to God. Akinruntan said he is alive, healthy, and thankful for the love and support he has received from Nigerians who care about him.
In Akinruntan’s words: “I am alive, that is it. I don’t think about their matter at all because I am alive. You are talking to Olugbo Oba Obateru Akinruntan the Olugbo of Ugbo. I heard that the House are debating about how to put Obas in constitutions, and I have done that when I was the chairman of council of Obas in Ondo State. I fought for it. Recently I just came, I went on holiday and I am back now. I want to go to Abuja to defend what I started before I left Nigeria. I want to thank every Nigerian concerned about me and my health. A lot of people phoned me, some have come to rejoice with me. Some of my enemies were talking another thing, when they saw me some people ran away from me, they couldn’t come to me. They said maybe this man has become a ghost”
