Ali Modu Sheriff, a former governor and influential politician, has shared a personal moment he had with Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, when he first learned about his nomination to become the country’s second-in-command.
In an interview on Channels Television from 3:02, Sheriff revealed that he was at a funeral when Shettima informed him about the unexpected call from Bola Tinubu, who was then the APC presidential candidate.
According to Sheriff, “We were at the burial of our friend, Umar, when Shettima turned to me and said, ‘Sir, I’m going to leave for Abuja. His Excellency the President has offered me the ticket to be his running mate.’ I told him, ‘Congratulations.’”
Sheriff also mentioned that he was the one who brought Shettima into politics and helped him become Governor of Borno State. However, he added that it is not his place to judge Shettima’s performance as Vice President, noting that President Tinubu made his choice without consulting anyone.
He explains that the President, Bola Tinubu, didn’t tell anyone before choosing Shettima. So it’s not for him to say whether Shettima is doing well or not.
