The disappearance of 28-year-old Quadri Ogunbode, a Political Science Education graduate from Lagos State University, has left his parents in distress for nearly 50 days, according to The Punch.
Reports indicate that Quadri, also known as Howla, was last seen on January 16, 2025, at the Celestial Church of Christ, Ileri Oluwa Parish, LASU 2, in the Ojoo area of Lagos. After completing his degree in 2024, he had been running a private business on campus while waiting for his graduation ceremony in April 2025.
Speaking to The Punch on Thursday, Quadri’s father, Idowu Ogunbode, recounted that after his son went missing, the family paid N100,000 to some individuals at the Ojo Police Station to track Quadri’s phone number, but their efforts yielded no results.
However, a breakthrough came when they checked Quadri’s bank account and discovered that large sums of money had been transferred from it nearly 24 hours after his disappearance. The funds were sent to multiple recipients, including a prophet, by a young man named Sheriff, with one transaction occurring around 2:00 AM on January 17, also recharged airtime through the victim’s bank account. And due to this, police got Sheriff’s phone, and set him up through a lady he constantly chatted before he was arrested.
Idowu said the police arrested and questioned Sheriff about the money transferred to his account from Quadri’s, but he denied any knowledge of it.
However, while giving her statement, the lady, through whom Sheriff was arrested mentioned a name that matched one of the recipients of the money withdrawn from Quadri’s account. Quadri’s father explained that the woman identified the name as belonging to her father, who was the cleric in charge of the Celestial Church.
Acting on this information, the police summoned the prophet under the pretext of securing his daughter’s bail. But when he arrived, they arrested him.
Idowu stated that during interrogation, the prophet initially denied knowing Sheriff but he later admitted that he (Sheriff) was a member of his church. When he was questioned about the money transferred from Quadri’s account to his own account by Sheriff, the cleric claimed that it was intended for the construction of the church fence.
Further talking, he said, “However, Sheriff later confessed at Panti Police Division after officers found clips on his phone showing him holding a gun. He (Sheriff) revealed that he, and his friends, were cultists, and that they regularly held their meetings at the Celestial Church of the prophet.”
Idowu described Sheriff’s confession as devastating, saying that he broke down in tears and wept as he left the police station that day to return to Abeokuta. Since then, he said, the trauma had been overwhelming for both him and his wife.
However, he claimed his agony deepened when some residents recently contacted him, and told him that his son’s disappearance might be linked to a ritual killing.
According to him, the residents claimed that a buried corpse had been exhumed near the church premises, and they suspected it was his son.
Idowu also revealed that he had sold his only car to raise money to pursue the case, yet he still had no answers about whether his son was dead or alive.
