Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has responded to a social media post suggesting that the United States has the power to remove Burkina Faso’s military leader, Captain Ibrahim Traore, without resistance from African nations.
The claim was made by a user identified as Vha Mabunda, who posted on X (formerly Twitter), “USA can remove Traore tomorrow and there’s nothing Africans can do.” In a brief response, Sani simply wrote, “Really?”—a short but significant reaction that raised questions about the sweeping assertion.
Captain Traore assumed power in Burkina Faso through a military coup in 2022 and has since positioned himself as a vocal critic of Western interference, especially in African political and security matters. His leadership, alongside those of other West African military rulers, has attracted both criticism and support amid growing calls for sovereignty and self-determination across the region.
Shehu Sani’s reaction, though understated, adds a note of skepticism to claims that global powers can easily dictate leadership changes in Africa. His post also contributes to the broader discourse on African independence, foreign influence, and the enduring debate about the continent’s political agency in global affairs.
