Former Kaduna Central senator Shehu Sani has praised comments made by Matías Almeyda, the head coach of Sevilla FC, after the coach criticized global spending on war while many people continue to face hunger, according to a post on X.
Almeyda had reflected on the contrast between ongoing wars and the continuation of football matches, saying the situation shows how the world often prioritizes business and competition over humanitarian concerns.
According to him, “Today there are wars, but we’re talking about a football match. This means, “We don’t care about anything.”
The Sevilla manager also pointed to the enormous cost of modern warfare, questioning why such resources cannot be redirected toward addressing poverty and food shortages.
He said, “Just think about it: each of those missiles launched is probably worth €50m, but then we say, ‘There’s hunger in Africa.’”
Almeyda further argued that the same amount of money could instead be used for humanitarian purposes such as food aid and education.
According to him, “Why don’t we spend that €50m on rice aid or education instead of launching those missiles? But we keep living in a world that’s only for ourselves.”
Reacting to the comments in a post on X, Sani praised the Spanish club and its coach for speaking out on the issue. He wrote, “Kudos to SERVILLA. You secured the right place in history. From today my favorite team is SERVILLA.” Read_More…
