Shehu Sani, a prominent PDP chieftain and former senator from Kaduna, has questioned the decision of the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons to destroy a large cache of arms and ammunition intercepted by the Nigerian Customs Service.
According to PUNCH, the Nigerian Customs Service had seized a 40-foot container loaded with 844 rifles and 112,500 live ammunition in Port Harcourt, which were skillfully concealed within various items, including doors, furnitures and leather bags.
Meanwhile, the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons has confirmed that the weapons had been handed over to them and would be destroyed after documentation.
He said:
“Why not give it to Defence or security agencies?”
Reacting to the development, Shehu Sani, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), wondered why the weapons would not be handed over to the Defence or security agencies to aid in the fight against insecurity in the country.
