Former Senator Shehu Sani has responded to the recent release of six #EndSARS protesters who were detained for nearly four years, calling out the Nigeria Police Force for their previous denials regarding the detention of protesters.

In a statement shared on his verified Twitter account on August 23, 2024, Sani expressed his frustration, stating, “What was denied now it’s true.”

Sani’s remarks came after a Lagos State Magistrate Court discharged six young men, Daniel Joyinbo, Adigun Sodiq, Kehinde Shola, Salaudeen Kamilu, Sodiq Usseni, and Azeez Isiaka, who were arrested during the #EndSARS protests in 2020. The defendants were released after pleading guilty to a charge of conducting themselves in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace, a violation under Section 168(d) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State.
