Former member of the Nigerian Senate, Senator Shehu Sani has commented on the recent appointment of the new Controller-General of the Federal Fire Service, noting a striking regional calmness surrounding the position.

In a tweet posted on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, Sani pointed out that the new appointee hails from the South West, and observed that there appears to be little contest or struggle from other regions for the role.

Senator Sani wrote, “The new Controller General of Fire Service is from the South West, it’s all quiet. It seems other regions are not struggling over this position.”

His remarks suggest a contrast to previous appointments where regional tensions or disputes were more common.

The announcement follows President Bola Tinubu’s approval of Deputy Controller-General Olumode Samuel Adeyemi as the new Controller-General of the Federal Fire Service.

The appointment was confirmed in an official statement released on Wednesday by the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board, whose Secretary, Major General A.M. Jibril (retd.), communicated the decision on behalf of the President.

The statement also noted that this change in leadership is occasioned by the upcoming retirement of the current Controller-General, Engr. Abdulganiyu Jaji, who is set to retire on August 13, 2025, after reaching the mandatory retirement age of 60.

The new appointment will take effect on August 14, 2025, immediately following Jaji’s retirement.
