Senator Shehu Sani, a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party and former lawmaker from Kaduna, has voiced his concerns following the Feral Executive Council’s approval of a $618 million loan for the Nigerian Air Force to acquire six fighter aircraft and ammunition.
According to PUNCH, the Federal Executive Council has approved a loan of about $618m from a group of financiers for the procurement of six fighter aircraft and ammunition for the Nigerian Air Force.
In a recent post on X, Sani expressed that, while he is not a defense expert, he questions the decision to borrow $618 million for additional fighter jets, especially after the previous administration’s $496 million purchase of SUPER Tucanos. He also raised doubts about the effectiveness of fighter jets compared to drones in combating banditry and terrorism, particularly against attackers using Chinese “Jingchen” motorcycles.
In his words;
I’m not a defense expert, so I don’t know the Wisdom in the idea of borrowing $618m to purchase another 34 fighter jets after the Buhari’s $496m SUPER Tucanos. Again, how useful are fighter jets and not drones in fighting Bandits and terrorists on Chinese “Jingchen” motorcycles?”.
