General Christopher Musa, the Chief of Defense Staff, has spoken about the case of Ruth Ogunleye, a female soldier who was discharged from the Nigerian Army on medical grounds after she alleged that she suffered abused at the hands of Colonel I.B. Abdulkareem.

In a live coverage by TVC from 37:31, General Musa said that Ruth had made several allegations against various individuals who tried to assist her, including himself and the current Chief of Army Staff. He emphasized that he had never met Ruth personally. He said when her accusations were brought to attention, proper procedures were followed and Ruth was assessed by medical professionals who determined that she had a mental health issue. He said based on this, she was discharged from the army.

In General Musa’s words: “She said something against me and the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), for heaven’s sake I have never met her. She brought up the issue, we took it up, the procedure was taken and the doctor found out that she had mental issue and she was let go”
