According to a report that was published on the official X account of Channels TV on Thursday, the Nigerian senate has reacted after the United Nations Inter-Parliamentry Union (IPU) said it will take action concerning the matter between the senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti and the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.
Recall that Natasha Akpoti recently attended the Inter-Parliamentry Union meeting in New York to report the Senate President alleging that he harassed her. The action was taken after she was suspended for six months over violation of Senate rules.
The Senate how now reacted through a letter that was written by the Senate leader, Opeyemi Bamidele. In the letter, the Senate leader clarified why the Kogi lawmaker was suspended for six months.
He said the authority of the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria suspended Natasha Akpoti for gross misconduct and unruly behaviour and that it has nothing to do with any form of harassment or assault. It was stated that Natasha Akpoti had consistently violated Senate rules hence the reason for her suspension.
According to Channels TV, Opeyemi Bamidele said;
“The authority of the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria firmly refutes the deliberate misinformation and false narrative being circulated by certain media organisations regarding the sixth months suspension of Senator Natsaha-Akpoti-Uduaghan”.
