The Sarkin Dawakin Babba of Kano, Aminu Baba Danagundi has alleged that the Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi gave money to the Kano governor and Sen Rabiu Kwankwaso and that he also funded their campaign to get back the emirship of Kano. He argued that his claim is substantiated by evidence, and it underscores the unconventional nature of his appointment.

He explained that historically, in Kano, only those whose fathers were emirs could ascend to the throne, rendering Sanusi’s case an anomaly despite his grandfather’s status as an emir. He stated that Sanusi’s grandfather, though an emir, was primarily a businessman and a manager at a textile company in Karina. He alleged that his father never held the emirship in Kano, making Sanusi’s ascension irregular. He elucidated further that In Kano’s royal tradition, the lineage from the grandfather does not hold significant weight; only direct paternal succession is considered legitimate.

He said in an interview with Arise TV from 9:30, ”Sanusi gave money to the governor and Kwankwaso, he funded their campaign. And I have the evidence to prove that. And that is why he came back as emir. It’s not an allegation, even Lamido himself said it. Sanusi grandfather was an emir but the issue is if your father is not an emir in the history of Kano, you cannot become the emir.

The grandfather doesn’t count in terms of royal blood to the throne. Sanusi’s grandfather was a businessman and he was a manager in one of the textiles in Karina. And his father was emir in Kano but Lamido’s father was never an emir. The fact is that Grandsons can’t take over the emirship from grandfathers and it has never happened in the history of Kano. When you have people who are in a better place to occupy that position, they have to be considered first. Aminu Ado Bayero has been a district head for over 30 years. Sanusi has never been in the system and that is why when he came, he messed up and he was removed.”….Seë_Morë
