Owolabi Salis, the first Nigerian to journey into space has opened up about the powerful and surreal experience he encountered upon entering orbit.

Speaking during an exclusive interview on Arise TV, the US-based lawyer, politician and now citizen astronaut described the physical and emotional sensations that overcame him as he crossed the boundary of Earth.

“Immediately we entered the space, I felt like my soul was leaving my body, like something was pushing out of my body,” Salis recounted, reflecting on the intensity of the moment. His description offered a rare glimpse into the human side of space travel, far beyond the technical details.

According to Salis, the transition into microgravity was both strange and exhilarating. “When you unstrap yourself, you harness yourself from the seat, then you start floating like a bird,” he explained. “So we were all floating like a bird.”

While the mission has already sparked pride across Nigeria and the diaspora, the official footage capturing the moment remains under wraps. “They have not released the video for that, they are going to release it very soon,” he said, hinting at the upcoming public release of visuals that may further inspire a new generation of Nigerians.
