According to the Nation Newspaper,one of the suspects arrested in connection with the disappearance of Anambra State lawmaker, Justice Azuka, has revealed that the abductors allegedly withdrew N100 million from his account before killing him.
During the weekend, the Police announced the arrest of nine individuals in connection with the abduction and murder of Anambra State lawmaker, Justice Azuka.
Heartbreakingly,the decomposing body of Justice Azuka was discovered near the Niger Bridge in Onitsha, Anambra State, on Thursday, a staggering 44 days after he was abducted.
Justice Azuka was ambushed by four armed youths on Christmas Eve in Ugwunabamkpa, Onitsha.
A viral video showed one of the suspects confessing that Justice Azuka was shot dead by his gang on Boxing Day, after they had successfully withdrawn N100 million from the lawmaker’s account.
During questioning, the suspect revealed that Justice Azuka was shot twice in the head, a gruesome detail that highlighted the brutality of the crime.
Commissioner of Police Echeng Echeng reported that nine suspects directly involved in the crime are now in custody.
Notably, the suspects arrested are relatively young, with two being teenagers and the oldest being only 30 years old.
Commissioner Itam named the suspects as Ugochukwu Onuorah, 30; Ikemefuna Ossai, 20; Ikenna Orugu, 27; Chibuike Obiefuna, 19; Chinonso Olisa, 19; Chinedu Okoli, 21; David Ojini, 25; and Peter Sunday, 20, who is described as the most notorious of the group.
Peter Sunday’s chest bears a tattoo that reads “No peace 4 d Government”.
The Commissioner assured that the trust placed in the Police and other security agencies to safeguard residents’ lives and properties will be justified.
