Henry Emeka has shared the story of how he was shot and robbed by some men he tried to help.
In an interview with Brekete Family from 3:06, a human rights program, Emeka said the incident happened in 2016 while he was driving from Owerri to Benin. He said when he got to the Asaba area, some young men stopped him and begged for a lift, saying they didn’t have money for transport.
Emeka said he agreed to help and allowed them into his car. He said when they reached a spot between Edo State and Agbor, one of the men pulled out a gun and shot him in the neck. He said he remained still after being shot and they thought he was dead.
Emeka said they pushed him out of the car and drove off with it. He said he managed to get up and started walking toward Agbor. He said he walked for nearly three hours that night while bleeding.
Emeka said that around midnight, he finally reached a road where he saw a police checkpoint and the officers at the checkpoint quickly took him to the hospital for treatment.
In Emeka’s words: “Between Edo State and Agbor they brought out gun and shot me in the neck so I relaxed and they thought I was dead. They pushed me out and drove away with the car. So I started trekking back again to Agbor that night. I trekked from that place to Agbor for almost 3 hours while bleeding. When I got to the road by 12.a.m, I saw a police checkpoint and it was the policemen that took me to the hospital”
