In an interview with Channels Television, Peter Ameh FROM 5:17, the National Secretary of the Coalition of United Political Parties, criticized the political and legal inconsistencies surrounding governance in Rivers State.

He pointed out that former Governor Nyesom Wike had dissolved local government chairmen appointed under his predecessor, Rotimi Amaechi, without facing significant legal obstacles. Additionally, he noted that Wike operated with a State Assembly that was not always in full session, yet the state functioned without judicial intervention.

Ameh argued that politicians often manipulate the judiciary by presenting cases in ways that create confusion. He emphasized that there is an ongoing case at the Court of Appeal regarding the defection of lawmakers, where an affidavit signed by the legislators confirms their switch from the PDP to the APC. He questioned why this critical legal document has not played a more decisive role in determining the legitimacy of the legislative faction in Rivers State.

“Wike ran the state and dissolved the Local Government chairmen that were left behind by Amaechi. The roof didn’t come falling. He also had a State Assembly that was not in full session. Politicians can confuse these judges. They come with all manner of cases. There’s a case that is at the Court of Appeal today that is dealing with the defection of the lawmakers with an affidavit signed by them in court that they have defected from the PDP to APC.”
