Prominent Niger Delta activist, Ann-Kio Briggs has reacted strongly to emerging claims that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu did the people of Rivers State a “favour” by declaring a state of emergency amid the state’s ongoing political crisis.

Speaking during an interview on Arise TV, Briggs expressed concern over what she described as troubling narratives being circulated regarding the federal government’s involvement in the state’s affairs.

“We are hearing that actually President Tinubu did us a favour by declaring state of emergency in Rivers State,” she said, echoing the reports making rounds in political circles. “Well, to some people who are politicians which I am not, he may have done. But because I have not seen it and I don’t understand it, I am yet to understand it.

Political analysts suggest that Rivers State has been on edge due to internal political rifts, with mounting tensions between key political actors. Briggs called on citizens and stakeholders to remain vigilant and insist on transparency and accountability from both state and federal authorities.
