In a recent interview with Channels Television From 20:29, Enemi George, a member of the Rivers State House of Assembly, provided insight into the ongoing budget controversy in the state. George emphasized that, legally, no budget was ever presented by Governor Siminalayi Fubara, contrary to earlier claims.
Referencing a High Court judgment by Justice Omotoso, George explained that the Governor’s actions did not constitute a formal budget presentation. He dismissed the idea of “re-presenting” the budget, stating that it was never presented in the first place.
George reiterated the Assembly’s decision to give the Governor a seven-day ultimatum to present a budget, stressing that their actions are driven by the collective interest of the people.
In his words;
“There’s no such thing as re-present the Budget in the eyes of the Law. No Budget was ever presented in Rivers State. If you look at the High Court judgement as issued by Justice Omotoso, it was clear that the actions of the Governor did not amount to presentation of a budget. You cannot go and present a budget to a shrine and when you’re corrected, you say you want to represent it, No. There was never a Budget presented. So what we’ve done as people who are working in the collective interest for our people, We have given the Governor seven days”…..Seë_Morë
