Chidi Llyod, the Chairman of Emohua local government area, has stated that Martins Amaewhule and 26 other lawmakers in Rivers State who had announced their defection from PDP to APC are still members of the PDP. He said this is because the lawmakers did not take formal steps required to defect to APC. Llyod made this statement after a court in the state ruled that all 27 lawmakers are still members of the PDP.

In a video shared by TVC from 8:57, Lloyd used an analogy to express his agreement with the ruling. He said he may wish to be president of Nigeria and announce it to his friends, however, that doesn’t automatically make him president. He explained that becoming president requires several official steps like joining a political party, participating in the party’s presidential primaries, emerging as the party’s candidate, contesting the general election, being declared the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and finally being sworn in as president
