In the escalating political drama within the Rivers State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Governor Siminalayi Fubara has adopted a strategic approach to wrest control of the state’s political structure from his predecessor, Nyesom Wike. According to Umar Sani, the former Senior Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to former Vice President Namadi Sambo, Fubara is using the Action (APP) as a political tool to demonstrate his influence, challenging Wike’s dominance.
During an interview with Arise News FROM 5:06, Sani explained that Fubara’s tactic is designed to build his own political base, distinct from the structures Wike has sought to control within the PDP. “This is merely a strategy by Siminalayi Fubara to be able to form his own structure and move them back to PDP,” Sani stated, suggesting that Fubara’s ultimate goal is to return to the PDP with a strong support base.
Sani emphasized that the political contest is not limited to courtroom battles. Fubara, he said, is prepared to take the fight to the grassroots level, indicating a political showdown between the two factions in Rivers State. “It’s not an issue where you begin to square it up alone in court. You also have to square it up on the field, and that’s what he has decided to do,” Sani added.
In a bold move, Fubara has reportedly aligned himself with the APP, a smaller political party, as a demonstration of his ability to sway the political pendulum in Rivers State. By throwing his weight behind the APP, Fubara aims to show that he can command voter loyalty and support, regardless of the party he chooses to back. “What he’s trying to show Wike is that, go ahead with your structures in PDP. We’re going to defeat you, the people are with me, the people are not with you,” Sani remarked.
