Political Analyst and legal practitioner, Barrister Darlington Agomuo has weighed in on the deepening political rivalry in Rivers State, stating that Governor Siminalayi Fubara has the financial capacity to counter the influence of former governor and current FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, despite reports of federal support for Wike’s political structure.
Speaking during an interview from 16:44 on Voice of the People TV, Agomuo dismissed claims that Wike enjoys an unchallenged advantage due to his strong connections at the federal level. He argued that as the sitting governor, Fubara controls significant resources and is financially positioned to stand his ground in the ongoing political battle.
According to him, Rivers State’s substantial revenue base gives any incumbent governor considerable leverage. “Fubara as the incumbent also has deep pockets. So Fubara as the current incumbent can fight Wike kobo to kobo, naira to naira,” he said.
Agomuo noted that the financial strength of the state has always shaped its political dynamics, making power tussles more intense than in many other parts of the country. He said the unfolding rivalry between Fubara and Wike reflects the broader struggle for control of Rivers’ vast resources, political influence, and institutional structures.
The analyst argued that while Wike’s federal connections play a significant role in his political clout, Fubara’s access to state resources provides him with an equally strong platform. He warned that a prolonged confrontation between the two power blocs could further destabilise the state’s political environment. View, More,
