Former Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, has outlined two key conditions for peace to return to the state amid ongoing political tensions.

Wike, now the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), stated that Governor Siminalayi Fubara must take immediate steps to resolve the crisis by addressing two specific issues.

Firstly, Wike insisted that Fubara must present the 2025 budget to the State Assembly, which is led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule.

Secondly, he demanded that the governor resubmit the names of his commissioners for clearance by the Assembly.

According to Daily Post, Wike emphasized that peace would only be achievable if these steps were taken, describing them as crucial for restoring order.

When the right things are done, there will be peace.

But if the right thing is not done, how would you say you want peace?” Wike stated.

He further warned Fubara that he could not expect peace while engaging in what he described as “illegality.”

Wike also recounted how he chose Fubara for the governorship position despite opposition from some politicians of Ijaw descent.

He highlighted that the Ijaw people are a minority in Rivers State and the wider Niger Delta region, making it unlikely for them to secure governorship positions in states outside Bayelsa.

This latest development comes as the political crisis in Rivers State intensifies.

Fubara has faced resistance from lawmakers loyal to Wike, and his access to the State House of Assembly has been obstructed.

Wike’s statements continue to stoke the growing tensions between the factions, with both sides appearing resolute in their positions.

The state government remains at an impasse as it awaits the governor’s response to the conditions set by Wike.

The future of the state’s political stability hinges on whether these issues are addressed promptly.
