The Opposition Coalition has dismissed claims that the Supreme Court ruled against Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, and the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Victor Oko Jumbo, according to DAILY POST reports.

In a statement by its spokesperson, Ikenga Ugochinyere, the coalition clarified that the Supreme Court did not deliver any judgment favoring the pro-Wike lawmakers, led by Martin Amaewhule. Instead, the court struck out Fubara’s appeal after he voluntarily withdrew it.
According to Ugochinyere, the governor’s decision to withdraw the appeal was informed by the fact that the 2024 budget had already been fully implemented and rendered irrelevant. “The Supreme Court merely acted upon the withdrawal notice presented by Governor Fubara through his lead counsel, Yusuf Ali SAN,” he stated.
According to DAILY POST reports, The opposition lawmakers maintained that Speaker Oko Jumbo remains in control of the Rivers State House of Assembly, dismissing rumors suggesting otherwise. Ugochinyere described those spreading misinformation as “sour losers” attempting to mislead the public.
He urged the media to ensure accurate reportage, particularly on legal matters, and called on Governor Fubara to remain focused on governance rather than political distractions.
“The sacked lawmakers and their leader, Amaewhule, are jubilating out of ignorance. The Supreme Court only struck out the appeal because the 2024 budget has been fully spent and overtaken by events,” Ugochinyere explained.
He reassured Rivers residents that Speaker Oko Jumbo remains the authentic Speaker, emphasizing that the legal and political status quo remains unchanged.
