Rivers Assembly Accuses Governor Fubara, Deputy of Gross Misconduct
The Rivers State House of Assembly has leveled accusations of gross misconduct against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu.
According to Channels Television, the lawmakers claim their actions are in accordance with the Nigerian Constitution.
A formal notice was sent to the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, outlining the allegations.
The document, obtained by Channels Television on Monday, emphasized that the accusations were made in line with Section 188 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).
“In compliance with Section 188 of the Constitution and other extant laws, we, the undersigned members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, hereby forward to you a Notice of Gross Misconduct by the Deputy Governor of Rivers State in the performance of the functions of her office,” the notice stated.
The specifics of the alleged misconduct remain undisclosed, but this development adds to the ongoing political tensions in Rivers State.
This is not the first time Governor Fubara has faced criticism from the state legislature, with previous accusations suggesting he has been sidestepping the Assembly’s authority.
Meanwhile, political analysts are closely watching the unfolding drama, as the situation could lead to impeachment proceedings if the allegations gain traction.
The governor and his deputy have yet to publicly respond to the accusations.
This latest controversy comes amid a broader political battle between the executive and legislative arms of government in Rivers State, raising concerns over governance stability in the oil-rich state.
