Media mogul Dele Momodu has reacted to the public clash between First Lady Senator Remi Tinubu and Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke during the Ooni of Ife’s 10th coronation anniversary. The First Lady was captured walking up to Governor Adeleke while he was giving a speech and telling him he had only five minutes left, adding that the music was enough.

In a long post on his X account, Momodu said he wasn’t surprised by the First Lady’s behaviour because he had experienced something similar in the past. He recalled meeting her at the funeral of the late Chief Mrs. Kemi Nelson, where she confronted him angrily for not supporting her husband politically. According to him, she raised her voice and accused him unfairly, but he chose not to argue out of respect.

Momodu said the latest incident with Governor Adeleke was “beneath her” because the First Lady holds no constitutional position that allows her to publicly scold an elected governor. He argued that her actions were embarrassing, especially because Adeleke was simply praising God before beginning his speech.

He also questioned whether she would have reacted the same way to a northern governor reciting verses from the Qur’an. Momodu stated that many people believed Adeleke handled the situation calmly, which prevented further drama.

Despite criticising her behaviour, Momodu said the real problem lies with Nigerians who allow powerful figures to act without consequence. He described them as “squeamish” and too afraid to defend their rights.
