The Federal Capital Territory Minister has praised First Lady Oluremi Tinubu for her commitment to the welfare of traditional rulers in the FCT and her broader interest in community development initiatives.
During a recent media interview with TVC From 1:48:18, the Minister highlighted several instances of the First Lady’s engagement with city affairs and social welfare projects. “I was doing inspection one day, and she called. She said, ‘Honorable Minister, I don’t know whether you are aware that the city gate, is there nothing you can do or to design it so that everybody entering will know that you’re entering the city?'” the Minister recounted.
He emphasized her genuine concern for governance outcomes, noting: “She is somebody who has the interest of government at heart.”
The Minister detailed how the First Lady regularly inquires about vulnerable populations. “She called me and said, ‘Oh, how are you doing with the IDP camps? How are you doing with the Orphanage homes? We will want to work with your head of women secretariat to see how we can support the Orphanages during the fasting period, either the Ramadan or Christmas period,” he shared.
According to the Minister, the First Lady consistently advocates for inclusive engagement with traditional leadership, saying: “She will say Honorable Minister, don’t forget the Emirs, the Chiefs, and their wives.”
The Minister also described her collaborative approach to official functions, including how “she called and said, ‘I’m going to host African heads of state. Will you be available to make a welcome speech?”
Wike revealed that what particularly impressed him about him about the First Lady was her focus on public service rather than personal gain. “There’s not a day where she said, ‘I had this friend looking for contract, I have this friend looking for land.’ All her interest is in the success of the government, humility,” he stated.
The Minister concluded by emphasizing her behind-the-scenes contribution in President Tinubu’s administration: “These are the kind of things and the role people play to make the government succeed. People whose concern is how will this government succeed for the benefit of the people, not what I, as the First Lady, will get.”
