A member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Makki Yalleman has expressed deep concern over the persistent lack of resources available to security operatives battling insurgency and banditry across the country.
Speaking during an interview on TV Platinum, the lawmaker highlighted the dire conditions under which security personnel are expected to confront heavily armed criminal groups.
Makki revealed that even basic operational needs such as vehicles, fuel and logistics remain unmet in several states facing heightened security threats. He disclosed that senior officers frequently reach out to him seeking assistance to bridge the gaps left by insufficient budgetary provisions and bureaucratic delays.
Giving a recent example, Makki stated, “Even recently, the Commissioner of Police in Zamfara was calling me that they need vehicles. The IG cannot do anything because there is no any fund.” His remarks underscored the challenges confronting security chiefs who, despite being responsible for maintaining law and order, lack the financial support required to respond swiftly and effectively.
The lawmaker described the situation as unacceptable, noting that the fight against insurgents and bandits cannot be won if frontline officers continue operating with inadequate equipment. He warned that delayed interventions and limited mobility expose both civilians and security personnel to heightened risks.
Makki called for an urgent review of the funding structure for security agencies, stressing that the National Assembly and the executive must prioritise direct, transparent, and timely budget releases to enable the police and military to meet operational demands. According to him, Nigeria must adopt a proactive approach that equips officers before crises escalate. View, More,
