A statement by PDP chieftain, Arch Uche Rochas, shared via his X account on Thursday, November 20, 2025, has triggered widespread reactions across social media.
In the post, Rochas declared that “if sentencing Nnamdi Kanu to life imprisonment is the sacrifice for Nigeria not to see Tinubu return as president in 2027, then so be it.”
His comment immediately drew strong responses from users who accused him of politicising a sensitive judicial matter.
One user reacted by arguing that Nnamdi Kanu’s alleged offences already carried grave consequences under the law, saying “I was told that violation is the death penalty, so Nnamdi Kanu got what most widows have been praying for. For the market women and men who were forcefully made to stay unproductive to feed your family in an economy that is hand to mouth. Nnamdi did this without authority.”
Another user dismissed Rochas’ political angle entirely, insisting that the legal outcome and the 2027 election were independent events.
“Nnamdi Kanu is going to prison and President Tinubu will still win the 2027 election. The two can coexist,” the user wrote, adding that the ruling party’s political strength remained intact.
A different commenter accused Rochas of misrepresenting the political reality in the region, stating that the southeast’s voting pattern had previously shown limited support for Tinubu.
The user wrote, “Just dey play, the south east only gave him 2% in the last election and he still won. President Tinubu didn’t arrest MNK but you people want him to boycott a whole court case. We will massively vote for him in 2027. Let’s wait and see.”
