A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Solomon Selcap Dalung, has alleged political interference and rising tension within Nigeria’s political landscape, following recent developments involving the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Dalung, a former Minister of Youth and Sports Development under the administration of Muhammadu Buhari, made the remarks during an interview from 2:43 on Symfoni TV on Thursday, April 2, 2026. He spoke extensively on what he described as deliberate actions aimed at undermining the ADC’s growing political influence.
Referring to INEC Chairman Joash Amupitan, Dalung stated, “No. Professor Joash Amupitan is a professor of law. He’s a very experienced teacher and that is why he’s also an experienced mischief maker. Because he’s only somebody who knows very well that can know how to create mischief.”
He further alleged that the electoral body was aware of its actions, saying, “So INEC knew what they are doing. The APC is scared of the development, the momentum being gathered by ADC.”
According to Dalung, the ADC has continued to attract support from Nigerians without financial inducement. He contrasted this with claims involving defections to the ruling party. “So many Nigerians are defecting into ADC without collecting 25 billion. But the governors defected to APC collecting 25 billion. So the APC is worried,” he said.
Dalung also referenced political activities in Bauchi State, alleging efforts by the ruling party to prevent further defections. “The chairman of APC was in Bauchi trying to prevail on the governor of Bauchi not to come to ADC,” he stated.
He attributed the current political tension to what he described as the ruling party’s concern over the ADC’s growing influence. “So it is the momentum that has threatened the APC because they have sunk so much money in defection yet Nigerians are not with them,” Dalung added.
The former minister concluded with a warning against actions that could escalate tensions in the country: “We can understand but they should not set the country ablaze. That’s my appeal because nobody is going to accept this. Nigerians will not accept it. ADC as a party will not accept it and anybody who thinks he can take benefit out of it, he’s making the greatest mistake.” Read_More…
