Elder statesman and prominent PDP leader, Chief Olabode George, has spoken about the level of hunger Nigerians are facing. He made a bold appeal to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, saying that he’s not afraid to speak truth to power.
In a video shared by Symfoni TV, the former military governor expressed deep concern over the state of the nation, urging President Tinubu to urgently tackle the rising hunger gripping Nigerians.
George painted a picture of his political journey, recounting how he once sat in the bedroom of Nigeria’s president and how he was sent to Kirikiri prison.
Reflecting on his prison experience, he quoted Nelson Mandela, stating that true self-discovery happens within prison walls. To him, this period became a form of spiritual awakening, shaping his resolve to speak the truth without fearing anybody.
He warned that Nigerians are angry and the country is on the brink of collapse, urging President Tinubu to return to the drawing board.
In his words, “I have seen it. I have watched in my life, those people. I have been to the topmost mountain politically in this country and sat in the same room, the bedroom of Mr. President.”
“I wasn’t president, but I have been privileged to sit there, meaning I have touched base there. and then they sent me to Kiriki, which is the worst bottom bedroom you can go through.”
“And if your faith is strong when you come back, God needs you to do that job. So when you say you see me here, you see me there, they don’t let me rest because I will tell you the truth.”
“I fear no human being at the age of 89. What am I looking for? What are you looking for? But to tell the truth to power, that is all we owe this nation. We are drifting very badly, and the ship of state is in distress.”
“Mr. President, Mr. President, you have the opportunity. Go back to your drawing table. Nigerians are hungry, and they are therefore very angry.
