The Presidency has reacted to widespread rumours alleging that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, suffered a stroke and was flown abroad for treatment. The speculation, which gained traction on social media, prompted a swift response from Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

In a post on his official X account, Onanuga dismissed the claim as false, describing it as the work of mischief-makers spreading unfounded reports. He reassured the public that Wike was in good health and actively carrying out his official duties.

“Here is Nyesom Wike, the Minister of FCT, reported by some online idiots to have suffered a stroke and flown abroad,” Onanuga wrote. His statement was accompanied by recent images of Wike, aimed at debunking the misinformation.

The rumor had sparked concerns among Nigerians, with many questioning its authenticity. While some social media users expressed skepticism, others had speculated on the implications of Wike’s alleged health condition for the administration. Onanuga’s response, however, sought to put an end to the speculation.
