General Ishola has stated that when the late President of Chad (Idriss Deby Itno) was alive he personally joined soldiers in battles against Boko Haram around the Chadian side of Lake Chad, and many of the terrorists were killed during these operations.

In an interview with Channels Television from 15:11, Ishola said during that period, Boko Haram’s leaders came out to say that they were only concerned with Nigeria so Chadian military should stop attacking them.

General Ishola said the Boko Haram leaders further stated that the group’s main goal was to carry out attacks in Nigeria. He said Chad has built a strong reputation in Africa because of the way its army has been able to handle insurgents and protect its territory.

In General Ishola’s words: “When the late President of Chad was alive, he joined the soldiers in attacking Boko Haram bases in the Chadian part of Lake Chad and so many of them were killed. Boko Haram’s leadership came out and said, ‘Oh Chad leave us alone. We are only concerned about Nigeria, we are not concerned with Chad, we are just looking for a safe place sometimes to be able to do what we want to do in Nigeria’ That is what Boko Haram leadership said”.
