The Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi has taken to his official X account on Tuesday to react after an X user said police in Canada won’t stop and search anybody if the person has not done something suspicious.
According to the X user, if the Canadian Police must search, they will show a search warrant.
He said;
“In Canada, police won’t stop you if you haven’t done something suspicious, else they show a search warrant. You can’t just stop someone walking and start searching based on what? How did he harass them, he was only asking for the reason he was stopped and they ought to give him the reason”.
Reacting, Muyiwa Adejobi stated that Canada is different from Nigeria. He said the two countries don’t operate the same law. He said In Nigeria, the police don’t require any warrant to search anybody while on stop and search or patrol.
According to Muyiwa Adejobi;
“That’s Canada. We don’t operate the same law. In Nigeria, the police don’t require any warrant to search you while on stop and search or patrol. Even in cases under investigation, not in all cases, you need a warrant to search an individual or a place. We need to understand our law and avoid unnecessary comparisons. Our law is our law, not Canadian or UK law”.
