Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun has clarified the Nigeria Police Force’s position on the possible use of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camps as training grounds for newly recruited police personnel.

Speaking during an interview on SYMFONI TV from 10:03, the IGP stressed that the idea was still under assessment and that only qualified facilities would be considered suitable for police training.

Responding to questions on whether NYSC camps nationwide would be converted into police training centres as part of efforts to expand recruitment, Egbetokun emphasized that no blanket approval had been given. He explained that the Force would carry out a thorough evaluation of the facilities before reaching a final decision. “We will assess NYSC training camps, those ones that are acceptable for our training, we will accept them. It doesn’t mean that every NYSC camp will be accepted for training,” he said.

The IGP noted that the Nigeria Police remains committed to improving the quality of its training programmes, especially as the Force works to boost its manpower in response to rising security demands. He explained that any facility considered for training must meet established standards relating to accommodation, security, logistics, and physical training requirements.

Egbetokun added that the move is part of broader reforms aimed at strengthening the police recruitment pipeline, enhancing professionalism, and ensuring that new recruits receive the best foundational preparation. He stressed that the Force would not compromise on the quality of training, regardless of the need to expand its capacity. View, More,
